SADIYA EARTHQUAKE 1697

A strong earthquake occurred in Arunachal Pradesh of present times at Sadiya (27.75N, 94.6E). The severe earthquake was followed by number of aftershocks for 6 months in an abortive fashion, from Phagun to Saon. The earth was rent as under at Sadiya. Magur and Kawai fish appeared in the breaches. As sands and water appeared at that place the sides of the hills crumbled down. The description of the effects indicate an intensity not less than X (Iyengar and Sharma 1998).
