Earthquakes

Earthquakes are geologic events that involve movement or shaking of the earth's crust. Earthquakes are usually caused by the release of stresses accumulated as a result of the rupture of rocks along opposing fault planes in the earth's outer crust. These fault planes are typically found along borders of the earth's 10 tectonic plates. These plate borders generally follow the outlines of the continents, with the Indian plate subducted with Eurasia in the as continent - continent collision and Ocean -continent in the east at the tripple juction three plate of Australia-India-Sumatra plate which are set n motion after the recent Sumatra earthquake 26December 2004 with slip rate 10-12 cm/year.
