It gives information on the record setting, the shake map, and other stuff about them. www.geology.usgs.gov/index.shtml This Page talks about both earthquakes and volcanoes but not only that it also has research on wat contributes to it and background information. Also it has maps and talks/showes where the recent earthquakes have accured. If you had questions on anything you could ask a geologist. USGS National Earthquake Information Center This website is produced by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). It provides a wealth of information pertaining to earthquakes such as a real time earthquake list, seismograph information and other general information regarding earthquakes. Along the left hand side there is a listing of geological terms, and things related to rocks, volcanoes and mountains. This is run by a geology professor at UC Santa Barbara. It also keeps past information about events that have happened and it seems like a very useful web site. www.usgs.gov This site had a wealth of information on earthquakes and volcanos including but not limited to information on current research, a children's site( kinda fun), maps, and fact sheets. There is also an email notification link to recieve email updates daily or weekly on the earth's movement and a weekly update on volcanic activity located within the site. www.crustal.ucsb.edu/ics/understanding/ This web site is full of information on how and why earthquakes happen. It has a rotating globe that shows the locations of all the earthquakes that have measured 5.5 or higher. They have a quiz you can take to see how much you know about earthquakes and they give you lots of useful information with the answers. It has a map that will show you the location and the magnitude of all the earthquakes that have happened in California within the past 24 hours or within the past week. www.iris.washington.edu/seismic/60_2040_1_8.html This website deals with current recorded earthquakes. It updates every 30 minutes, and keeps a color coded record of when they occurred. It has a click map, where the earthquakes are displayed. When you click on a particular earthquake, it gives you a lot of useful information. www.www.geology.about.com/ Lots of information on all fields of geology (including dinosaurs, fossils, rocks and stones, volcanos, caves, craters, climate...) Also has some biographies and quizzes. It's a home page to many useful links. Maps, pictures, everything. This site has a nice maps showing where the recent earthquakes have occured. There are charts explaining the location, magnitude and time of the earthquakes. The first is the web site of the long Valley observatory in Ca. www.lvo.wr.usgs.gov/ this page monitors earthquakes in the area every day. It displays a map with markings that describe the activity in the area. the second page is for volcanoes that occur in the Cascade range in Washington. vulcan.wr.usgs.gov It monitors several sites that are know volcanoes. This website seems is a branch off from National Research Institute for Earth Sciences and Disaster Prevention, and regards the use of satellites to monitor and sensor oncoming disasters. The page is very throrough, spanning all the countries, and providing an enlarged version for the United States.
